DISCOUNT WORLD CRUISES - TRAVEL
Have you already taken a few cheap
cruises to Hawaii? Have you sailed on a discount European cruise?
How about a Bermuda cruise or an Alaskan cruise? Certainly, all of
these places are won
derful
to visit and add substantially to your travel memories. But, the world is a big
place with thousands of interesting ports of call, all waiting to be seen.
If you are tiring of the single
location, cheap Carnival cruise trips and last minute cruise
vacations, maybe it's time to move up to the "Big Kahuna" - a luxury
world cruise.
WORLD CRUISE VACATIONS
World cruises are extensive. To give
you an idea of the depth of a world cruise, consider Regent's World Cruise
Vacations. In 2008, Regent will have its most extensive world vacation
ever. The cruise trip will cover 51 ports in 26 countries and last for
115 nights! At a later date, Regent Cruises will offer two world
vacations. The Seven Seas Voyager will depart Los Angeles on its Grand
Circumnavigation World Cruise for more than four months. The Seven Seas
Mariner leaves from Ft. Lauderdale and will sail to the Pacific Rim, New
Zealand, the South Pacific, Alaska and South America for its Ring of Fire
World Cruise.
When shopping for your planned travel
vacation, you'll want to consider all of the major extended trip players. The
main cruise lines to investigate are Norwegian, Holland America Cruise Line,
Cunard Cruise Lines, Crystal, Radisson, Seaborne and Silversea
Cruises.
PREPARING FOR A WORLD CRUISE TRIP
Most people are not used to being away
from home for such extended periods of time as those required for a world
cruise. Some cruise ships set sail in January and don't return until
almost early summer. This makes packing your bags a major exercise in planning
as you may be covering all four seasons in up to 30 different countries. To make
sure you are properly prepared, make sure that you know how many days you will
be in each geographic region and look up world temperature charts for guidance.
WORLD CRUISE PRICES
If you are looking for a
discount vacation
cruise package, a trip around the globe is probably not for you. Prices run
from about $60,000 to $400,000 per person. That's a long way from the cheap 3
day cruses that Carnival advertises for $399. Of course, it is possible to
save money on a world cruise. As usual, work closely with a travel agent
specializing in the type of trip you are looking for. If a cruise around the
world is out of your budget range, try some of the single location ship tours.
WORLD
CRUISE ALTERNATIVES
If a four month trip around the globe
seems like too much for you at one time, try flying into a specific port and
relaxing while waiting for the ship to complete the first few legs of the trip.
This way, you can cut the time spent on the ship in half or less and then travel
back home by sea. Obviously, you will need to check with the travel companies to
see if they can accommodate a split travel arrangement. Norwegian, holland
America and Cunard will usually be accommodative.
SUMMARY - WORLD CRUISES
As usual, what you see is not always
what you get. Spend plenty of time evaluating cruise offers and then
make a list of all of the things you will want to do and of the items that you
will be consuming. Armed with your list, call the cruise companies or
your travel agent and ask lots of questions - especially about any
discount world cruises.
